Taxis are yellow and can be hailed from the street. If the light on top of the cab is on, it is available. Most taxis can carry up to 4 adults; some carry more. In New York City, children are not required to use car seats when traveling by taxi. Taxis accept credit/debit cards. A 15-20% tip is customary. Approximate taxi rates and times can be calculated via TaxiFareFinder.
Parking
Driving and parking in Manhattan can often be time-consuming and frustrating. Free street parking is sometimes available on our block, but many other spots are metered. Please pay attention to all street signs. Streets are cleaned several times a week. Cars are ticketed daily, and fines are significant.
There are many parking garages in our neighborhood, but all are expensive. The cheapest garages within walking distance are often the ones owned by Icon on 26th Street, between First and Second Avenues.
As a more economical option, consider parking in Brooklyn or New Jersey and taking a subway, PATH train or ferry onto the island. Updated schedules and parking information can be found on websites for the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority), New Jersey Transit and New York Waterway.
